Este trabalhinho é um gesto especial, internacional, um tributo ao motorzinho incansável do movimento Tropicalista brasileiro que foi Waly Salomão.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Seu pai, um imigrante oriundo da Síria, do Oriente Médio, era um muçulmão assumido: Diz-se que ele, um comerciante de tecidos, tinha uma bela duma tatuagem num de seus braços que declarava orgulhosamente: "Alah Akbar!" ou seja,"Deus é Grande!"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Já sobre a mãe de Waly Salomão sabe-se menos. Mas sabemos que ela era sertaneja do interior da Bahia, a caatinga certamente é um lugar bem diferente da Síria mas não menos exótico, dependendo do ponto de vista da gente.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;A família Salomão lia constantemente, de acordo com o poeta; e todos em sua casa gostavam muito de ler os clássicos da literatura. Waly Salomão era uma pessoa que ria aberta- e freqüentemente quando entre os amigos e as amigas - basta ver as fotos dele que existem por aí na mídia. Ele era muito expressivo não só como escritor mas como ser humano ao se relacionar ao seu próximo. Ele entendia e apreciava todos as matizes do espectro que abrange toda a cultura da família humana.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;"Me segura que eu vou dar um troço", ele escreveu enquanto trancafiado no Carandirú por ter sido apreendido com um baseado. Mas foi este escrito parido por detrás das grades, incidentalmente, que o propeliu para o cume como poeta...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mais tarde, ou recentemente, quando o ministro da cultura do Brasil, Ministro Gilberto Gil, o convidou para atuar como secretário Nacional do Livro, Waly Salomão aceitou o cargo sem vacilar. Uma de suas metas mais importantes era expandir a leitura pelo Brasil inteiro, para todos os brasileiros e brasileiras.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Eis a sua declaração, em suas próprias palavras, à Heloísa Buarque de Hollanda, professora e editora, durante uma entrevista a ela concedida em 2003:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;- Qual seria o grande gol de sua gestão na secretaria?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;- Penso agir com muita dedicação, sonho e catimba, que é uma palavra que vem da África. Sonho com um povo mais bem alimentado, letrado, gostando de livro, mas sem estar oprimido pela leitura. Sonho com o Brasil, nesta gestão Lula, assumindo sua face original e diversificada perante o mundo. O livro pode ajudar nisso. Minha meta é transformar o livro numa carta de alforria.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Infelizmente Waly Salomão nos deixou, prematuramente, naquele mesmo ano de 2003, quando ainda trabalhava junto ao Ministério da Cultura como Secretário do Livro. Gilberto Gil teria ficado desconsolado com a perda de seu amigo Waly. Mesmo aos cinquenta e nove anos de idade, ele partiu cedo demais, todo mundo concorda.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Lembremos que Waly era uma pessoa de pensamento positivo e que não aceitava direito o fatalismo sem mais nem menos. Por exemplo, na mesma entrevista com Heloísa Buarque de Hollanda ele disse que nunca acreditou que "The dream is over" ("O sonho se acabou") mas que sempre se sentiu mais próximo à frase de Shakespeare que diz que ''Somos feitos do mesmo material de que são feitos os sonhos.''&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Então, que fique conosco a sua memória alegre e bonita, propensa a sonhar grandes sonhos e a incentivar toda a gente brasileira a sonhar. Ficam entre nós as suas belas letras e os seus nobres planos para uma nova era de leitura por todos os brasileiros e brasileiras pelo Brasil afora; isso sem jamais abafar a criatividade e a espontaneidade calorosa de nossa gente.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Escolhi um dos poeminhas mais singelos de Waly Salomão, intitulado "Emílio ou da Educação", para ser traduzido em sua homenagem a vários idiomas do mundo. Para tal procurei velhos amigos e amigas, conhecidos e conhecidas e mesmo gente que nunca cheguei a conhecer pessoalmente... gentes tanto de perto como de longe, pessoas espalhadas pelos quatro cantos deste nosso planeta terra. E achei muito apropriado fazer um tributo bem abrangente e internacional ao nosso querido poeta brasileiro, filho da caatinga baiana, visto que ele não era um estranho às universalidades da vida.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Muito obrigado a todos/as que contribuiram com uma ou mais traduções desta pequena ode ao jovem Emílio de Waly Salomão.
